Peugeot E-3008 Review

Bold styling

Next generation of i-Cockpit

73 kWh battery gives WLTP 326-mile electric driving range

Design & Powertrain

The new Peugeot E-3008 has adopted a fastback body style rather than the SUV shape of the previous model. As well as the new overall silhouette, it features a number of interesting design details such as the lights and alloy wheels. And then there’s the interior, with a next generation ‘Panoramic i-Cockpit’, and the design of the cabin features creative curved surfaces, a mix of materials and useful storage space.

Although this is a fastback, the 588-litre boot is deep, resulting in plenty of space for items typically packaged in car boots such as dogs, and there’s a large storage compartment under the boot floor. Folding the rear seats results in 1,663 litres of space, and rear legroom is also decent.

The Peugeot E-3008 has a 73kWh battery, which is larger than the standard 54kWh battery found in most Stellantis models. Our test car had a 210 hp electric motor delivering front-wheel drive.

The E-3008 has a towing capacity of 1,250kg.

Driving Experience

As well as exhibiting creative design, the new Panoramic i-Cockpit works well from a functionality point of view. The gear selector that’s found in the majority of Stellantis models has moved from between the front seats to the dashboard, to the left of the start/stop button. In the location where you’d normally find the gear selector, on the raised section of the centre console, is the drive mode switch, giving the options of Eco, Normal and Sport. It’s tempting to reach for the drive mode switch in error when you want to change gear.

The gear selector has lost its ‘B’ button, and instead the E-3008 has gained steering wheel-mounted paddles for changing the level of brake regeneration, which is a better solution.

The i-Cockpit features a small steering wheel which you look over to view the driver’s instrument display, and this display now extends into the central touchscreen. As with other Peugeots, the small wheel results in a fun driving experience, although the steering feels a little over-assisted and less direct than in the E-208.

Like most EVs, the E-3008 is a very refined and comfortable car to drive, with good primary ride quality as well as decent secondary ride quality on poor surfaces (albeit slightly bouncy on some roads), and the relatively high profile tyres no doubt help with the ride quality. The E-3008 was fitted with Michelin CrossClimates, which we’ve tested extensively over 10 years on other cars, and which have proven to be excellent all-round, and to be particularly capable in snow and ice. However the tyres can sometimes struggle to transfer all of the 345 Nm of torque via front-wheel drive to wet roads, even with acceleration that feels somewhat leisurely, especially from standstill.

The i-Cockpit now has a 21-inch HD panoramic curved display incorporating the instrument panel and touchscreen, and under the touchscreen is a row of six large digital ‘i-toggle’ shortcut buttons for Mirror Screen, Phone, Navigation, Climate, Media and Home. These buttons work well, and are still accessible if you’re using Apple CarPlay, and the approach shows that Peugeot has applied thought to ensure high-tech dashboards are user-friendly. However you still need to press the climate button to view the climate controls, and then you need to press buttons on screen to adjust the cabin temperature; we’d prefer physical controls on the dashboard to quickly change the cabin temperature.

Even the lane departure warning appears to have been improved – rather than the steering wheel being wrenched out of your hand when you drive near a white line, a warning light appears on the instrument panel. And the audible speed warning is also more subtle than in most other new cars.

In the Allure model the driver’s seat adjustment is manual rather than electric, as is the tailgate.

Range & Charging

The Peugeot E-3008 has a WLTP combined electric driving range of 326 miles, which is an improvement on the range of around 250 miles from Stellantis EVs with the smaller 54 kWh battery. During our week on test with the car, the display was predicting the same 326-mile range, but the real-world range was averaging around 270 miles.

What hasn’t changed is the maximum 100 kW DC rapid charging speed; this should allow a 20% to 80% charge in 30 minutes. The on-board 11kW AC charger should give a 20% to 80% charge in 4 hours, and a home 7.4kW AC wallbox charger should deliver a 20% to 80% charge in 6 hours.

The Peugeot E-3008 is available with a heat pump, but this is a £700 option.

Price and Model Range

The Peugeot E-3008 Allure Electric 73kWh 210 is priced from £45,850. Our test car had a number of options including Advanced Grip Control with three driving modes – Sand, Snow and Mud – and Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC) (£300); Heat Pump (£700); 360˚ Vision & Drive Assist Pack: Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Long Range Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), PEUGEOT Smartbeam – High Beam Assist, plus four exterior cameras, Flank Guard Protection, Door Mirrors with Reverse Gear indexing and Heated Steering Wheel (£700); and Nappa ‘Mistral’ Black Perforated Full Grain Leather seats (£1,000); taking the total price of our test car to £48,550. The Obsession Blue paint is a standard colour.

The E-3008 is available in two trim levels, Allure and GT, and a Long Range E-3008 with up to 422 miles of range, 230 hp and front-wheel drive will be available to order later in 2024. An all-wheel drive model with 320 hp and a WLTP 326-mile range is also due.

The Peugeot E-3008 comes with an 8-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty.

Conclusion

The Peugeot E-3008 has bold exterior styling, and the interior also features creative design, as well as technology that works well. The small steering wheel helps to make the car more fun, but overall this is a comfortable car to drive. The larger battery gives a longer range, but this also results in the car being heavier. Despite the fastback shape, the boot is large, and the rest of the car is spacious. The E-3008 further differentiates Peugeot’s creative design from fellow Stellantis brand Vauxhall’s more simple approach.
