Ford Puma Gen-E car review
The Ford Puma Gen-E is a big (and exciting) moment in Ford’s move to electric. It’s the all-electric take on a car that UK drivers already love. Over 48,000 were registered in 2024, making it the country’s best-seller. Instead of reinventing the wheel, Ford has taken what made the Puma such a hit and added a smooth, punchy electric motor, keeping the same smart design, everyday practicality, and fun driving feel people already know and enjoy.
This is a review for the Ford Puma Gen-E
-
Punchy electric performance with familiar Puma driving charm
-
Spacious and tech-packed for the price point
-
170 miles of realistic real-world range
-
A strong contender in the compact electric SUV market
-
Affordable and accessible option for drivers making the switch to electric
The Puma Gen-E electric car is designed to make the switch to electric feel familiar and reassuring, rather than futuristic or intimidating. It’s a logical next step for existing Puma fans, but it also stacks up well against rivals like the Peugeot E-2008, Jeep Avenger, and Vauxhall Mokka Electric.

Ford Puma Gen-E driving experience
The Puma Gen-E drives just as you’d expect from a modern Ford—confident, composed, and surprisingly engaging. With 168 PS (165 bhp) and instant torque, it delivers nippy acceleration, 0–62 mph in 8.0 seconds. Perfect for city driving, roundabouts and overtaking on A-roads.
The all electric Puma feels agile and responsive, it’s also refreshingly light on its feet. The steering is well-weighted, body control is excellent, and the suspension does a good job of soaking up bumps without sacrificing handling. It’s easily one of the more fun-to-drive options in this part of the EV market.
Ford Puma Gen-E tech & features

Inside, Ford has clearly upped its game. The Gen-E features a slick 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 12.0-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen, offering crisp graphics and responsive controls.
Crucially, there are still physical buttons for climate controls, which is a relief, many rivals go full touchscreen, which can be frustrating on the move.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, alongside Alexa Built-In, wireless charging, and a raft of driver aids such as adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and lane-keeping assistance. Premium models add features like a B&O sound system, keyless entry, and a hands-free tailgate.
You also get Ford’s unique MegaBox boot feature, offering up to 574 litres of total luggage space; more than many larger SUVs and ideal for everything from dogs to DIY runs.
Ford Puma Gen-e charging & range
Ford quotes a WLTP range of up to 233 miles, but we prefer to base our recommendations on what drivers can actually expect in real-world UK conditions. Our experience suggests 170 miles is a realistic range for most drivers, factoring in things like motorways, cold weather, and everyday usage.
The 43.6 kWh usable battery supports 100 kW DC rapid charging, meaning you can go from 10–80% charge in around 23 minutes. Ideal for longer trips and topping up on the go. Home charging on a standard 7 kW wallbox will take roughly 7 hours for a full charge, making overnight charging straightforward.
In terms of range and charging, the Puma Gen-E is competitive with the likes of the Jeep Avenger and Mokka Electric, although some rivals edge it slightly on range. Where the Puma wins back ground is with its superior practicality, ease of use, and driving feel.
The DriveElectric verdict
The Ford Puma Gen-E brings a beloved crossover with mass appeal into the electric age. It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t try too hard to be futuristic, it’s just a very good electric car that feels natural to drive, own, and live with.
With its real-world range of 170 miles, solid charging speeds, and a practical, well-specced interior, it’s a great choice for drivers looking to go electric without compromise.
For families, commuters, or anyone who wants an EV that’s easy to adapt to, the Puma Gen-E is a welcome addition to the UK’s growing electric car market, and a smart pick for your next lease.
