VW releases the ID.7 Tourer, a premium electric estate car
It’s the EV news we’ve all been waiting for: German giant Volkswagen has unveiled the brand new ID.7 Tourer.
With generous space and a whopping 426 miles of range (WLTP figures), this release is also said to be one of the first all-electric estate cars in the upper mid-sized class.
Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, says, “The new ID.7 Tourer is a perfect estate model, especially for families and long-distance drivers. With plenty of space and a high level of comfort, it impresses fully electrically with long ranges!"
At first glance, the ID.7 tourer is very similar to the ID.7 hatch. Slick bodywork (think panoramic glass roofs and slim headlamps) and stylish interiors feature in both models.
So, how exactly does it differ from the fastback saloon in terms of range, space, and innovation?
Let’s park up and take a closer look.
Bigger boot
The rear of the ID.7 Tourer is what really sets it apart from the ‘regular’ ID.7. Thanks to a long roof line leading to the boot lid, the increased height allows for an impressive 605 litres of boot space when five people are on board (that’s a whole 74 litres more than the fastback). Load up the backrests of the front seats, and the volume is boosted to 1,714 litres.
Maximum range
Volkswagen has taken its latest EV offering up a notch by providing different battery sizes in 77kwH and 86kWh. The former can be charged at up to 175kW on a rapid charger. Meanwhile the largest battery, designed to be charged with up to 200kW, can boost range up to 427 miles (WLTP). This means it can be topped up from 10 to 80 % in less than 30 minutes. So, pretty ideal for those long haul journeys.
Innovative features
And it doesn’t stop there. The Tourer comes with a whole host of technological features to ensure a seamless driver experience. This includes an AR head-up display to present journey information which gets updated from Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
With the 15-inch touchscreen, drivers can use the IDA voice assistant to use online outlets such as Wikipedia and ChatGPT for those mid-journey burning questions (unfortunately: ‘Are we there yet?’ or ‘Can we stop for a McDonalds?’ may not be applicable to this).
Ultra comfort
Another unique feature to come from the German carmakers is its new Wellness In-Car app. The ID.7 Tourer has set out to offer its drivers ‘premium-class comfort’ with automatic vents, ergoActive seats with massage functions, and air-conditioning.
To top it all off, the glass panoramic sunroof with smart glass allows drivers to switch the roof from opaque to transparent at the tap of a button.
Volkswagen is yet to confirm the release date and UK pricing for the ID.7 Tourer, however it is expected to arrive in the late summer with estimated costs starting from £55,000.
You'll be able to lease this premium electric estate car from DriveElectric on either personal or business contract hire soon.
