Volvo updates names of existing electric cars
Swedish carmaker Volvo has changed the names to a couple of existing electric models to bring them into line with their latest cars.
Volvo has announced plans to update the names of two of its electric models - the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge will forthwith be known as the EX40 and EC40. This brings the oldest electric models on its roster in line with the naming convention employed on its newest pure EVs.
The "Recharge" badge is getting dropped entirely from the Volvo range as well - so Volvo's plug-hybrids are also getting a naming refresh.
This means that Volvo now has five pure electric models in the UK - EX30, EX40, EC40, EX90 and EM90.
Also getting a tweak for 2024 are the available variants, both the EX40 and EC40 can now be ordered with a new Performance software pack on the twin motor version. This sees both models benefits from performance improvements - a 25kW increase in power, faster acceleration and a new 'performance' drive mode.
There's also a special Black Edition variant available to order - which comes in Onyx Black paint, high-gloss black badging and 20-inch black alloys.
