Volkswagen launches powerful ID.7 GTX saloon

Volkswagen has added a GTX variant to the ID.7 saloon range.

Featuring identical specs to the existing ID.7 GTX Tourer, the 'fastback' model comes with a larger 86 kWh battery unit and dual-motor all-wheel drive. This means the driver can call on 250kW of power, giving a sprint time of just 5.4 seconds to get from a standing start to 62mph.

As with other Volkswagen GTX models, the ID.7 is recognisable due to some design tweaks over the rest of the range. These include the GTX-specific daylight running light clusters, special 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels, and illuminated VW logos on the front and rear.

The official vehicle range of the GTX is 360 miles, so in the real world we would expect a range of just over 300 miles.

Compared to the Tourer, the Fastback takes a hit on the amount of rear luggage space however max capacity is 532 litres with the rear seats in cargo position.

The upgraded battery pack is also being rolled out to existing ID.7 long range models too - so expect to be able to order a ID.7 Pro S or Tourer Pro S with the 86kWh battery pack, replacing the 77kWh battery. This means that the WLTP figure for the ID.7 Pro S fastback now sits at 440 miles.
