Skywell 233 large electric van unveiled, set to launch in the UK
Revolutionary Chinese EV brand introduces its first commercial vehicle to Europe, expected to hit UK markets in 2025
Skywell, a rising name in electric vehicle manufacturing outside of China, has officially revealed its highly anticipated ‘233’ large electric van at the Paris Motor Show. Marking its European debut, this van is the company’s first commercial vehicle to launch in the region, showcasing the brand’s ambition to expand its presence in international markets.
Skywell, which began as Nanjing Golden Dragon in 2000, has a rich legacy in electric bus production. Now, as part of the Skyworth Group – a global electronics giant with an annual turnover of £21 billion – the brand is leveraging its expertise to target the commercial EV market. The '233' is seen as a strategic move to establish Skywell’s presence in the European EV space, with the UK playing a significant role in its future plans.
Versatile Specifications and Advanced Powertrain
The Skywell 233 will be offered in two body lengths, 5,490mm and 5,990mm, and two roof heights, ranging from 2,200mm to 2,700mm. This configuration allows for flexible load capacities between 9.5 and 13 cubic metres, catering to a wide range of commercial needs.
Buyers will also have the option of two gross vehicle masses (GVM), either 3.5 tonnes or 4.25 tonnes, the latter providing a payload capacity of up to 1,755kg.
Powering the 233 is a choice of two LFP (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) batteries sourced from CATL, a leader in heavy-duty EV battery technology. The battery options include 88kWh and 105kWh capacities, paired with a 150kW electric motor delivering 370Nm of torque, ensuring impressive range and performance for various applications.
Bold Design and High-Tech Features
What sets the 233 apart is its striking design and well-equipped interior. The van’s bold front fascia features a distinctive bumper and integrated grille, complemented by sleek contours and curved LED lightbars, giving it a modern, aerodynamic look.
Inside, the spacious cockpit is designed for comfort and productivity, featuring a 15.6-inch touchscreen display, wireless phone charging, smartphone connectivity, and keyless entry. The 6-way adjustable driver’s seat ensures an ergonomic driving experience, ideal for long hauls or urban delivery work.
Skywell has also prioritised safety, equipping the 233 with an extensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include Intelligent Cruise Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Intelligent Speed Assist, all designed to enhance driver safety and reduce the risk of accidents.
UK Debut Set for 2025
As it prepares for its UK debut, the Skywell 233 will face tough competition from several established electric vans currently dominating the market, such as the Ford E-Transit, Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, and Volkswagen e-Crafter.These models are already popular among fleet operators, known for their reliable performance and comprehensive service networks. Skywell will need to demonstrate how its unique blend of cutting-edge technology, payload flexibility, and competitive pricing can win over UK businesses looking to transition to electric.
UK customers can expect to see the Skywell 233 at the Commercial Vehicle Show in April 2025 at the NEC Arena in Birmingham, where its official production model name and pricing will be revealed.
This launch represents a major milestone for Skywell as it brings its first commercial vehicle to Europe, signalling the brand's growing ambitions on the global stage.
