Nissan unveils the Hyper Tourer concept which combines comfort and convenience
Nissan unveiled its third electric vehicle, the Nissan Hyper Tourer, at the Japan Mobility Show. The all-electric minivan aims to strengthen bonds between people traveling together, targeting those who value the finer things in life.
Nissan is unveiling a series of radical electric concepts in the run-up to the Japan Mobility Show starting on 25 October. The latest concept is the Nissan Hyper Tourer, which will be displayed physically at the show.
The futuristic, angular Nissan Hyper Tourer is an all-electric luxury minivan, with intended uses including road trips and business travel.
Aside from the radical styling, the Hyper Tourer is notable for featuring all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). With a high-energy density, Nissan says that ASSBs will reduce charging time to one-third. The company expects ASSBs be in EVs by 2028, when they will bring down the cost of battery packs to $75 per kWh, and down to $65 per kWh in the future to achieve cost parity between EVs and petrol vehicles.
The Hyper Tourer offers V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything), allowing the MPV to provide power for a range of uses, to homes, offices and the electricity grid, for example.
Although the Hyper Tourer features e-4ORCE all-wheel drive in order to enhance the driving experience, the EV is also capable of fully autonomous driving. When combined with the ability of the front seats to swivel 360-degrees, this allows front and rear-seat passengers to interact with each other in a lounge environment in a way that isn’t possible if a human has to drive the vehicle. Rear-seat passengers can even operate the car’s navigation and audio via wearable technology. The floor of the concept features a screen with images of a river bed, aimed at introducing a feeling of nature into the interior.
Sustainability is at the core of Nissan's long-term vision, Nissan Ambition 2030. Responding to critical environmental, societal and customer needs, this strategy sets out to deliver electrified models and technological innovation in key markets globally. Ambition 2030 supports Nissan's goal to be carbon neutral across the life cycle of its products and operations by 2050.
