NIO ET9 revealed in China with 600kW charge capability

The electric NIO ET9 executive saloon has been unveiled, with the capability to add over 150 miles of range in just five minutes thanks to its maximum charging rate of 600kW. The ET9’s 900V electrical architecture allows this level of ultra-rapid charging, but if this isn’t fast enough, then the EV’s battery can also be swapped at a special station in three minutes.

A 340 kW electric motor at the rear and a 180 kW electric motor at the front deliver total power of 520 kW along with all-wheel drive.

At 5,325mm, the NIO ET9 is a long car, yet it just has four seats, which allows space for a table in between the seats for passengers in the rear. As well as multi-adjustable rear seats, the ET9 has an adjustable electric sunshade for the glass roof, as well as active road noise cancellation.

 The ET9 also features the ‘SkyRide Intelligent Chassis System’, comprised of steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, and full active suspension. NIO says that this makes it the world's only ‘driven-by-wire intelligent chassis’, resulting in making driving on a rough road feel like a flat surface - despite the huge 23-inch wheels.

The ET9 has a super computing platform which supports various car functions including autonomous driving, called Pilot Plus.

The NIO ET9 is now available for pre-order in China, with deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2025. 

NIO has also launched the fourth-generation NIO Power Swap Stations, and the 640kW Liquid Cooled Power Charger, which will allow the ET9 to charge at its maximum charging rate of 600kW.

Equipped with rooftop photovoltaic systems, NIO says that its latest Battery Swap Stations are compatible with multiple brands and they reduce the overall battery swapping time by 22%.

In 2024, NIO will build 1,000 Power Swap Stations and 20,000 640kW Power Chargers.
