New electric Ford Explorer SUV revealed
Ford has revealed the new all-electric Ford Explorer which offers an outstanding digital experience to users and leads the way for a new wave of innovative electric vehicles
Ford only has one electric car on sale, the Mustang Mach-E, which is lagging behind many competitors. However, the company has now announced its second EV, the Electric Ford Explorer mid-size crossover, is coming.
The Electric Ford Explorer will be available in select and Premium versions and can be ordered later this year.
No powertrain details have been confirmed other than the ability to fast charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. Charging at home can be scheduled to use cheaper electricity and energy tariffs, and to deliver a full battery and pre-warmed cabin.
There will also be the ability to access 21,000 public charge points in the UK on Ford’s Charging Network, and by 2024, Explorer customers will have access to more than 500,000 charging points in 25 countries across Europe.
Ford says that the Explorer will include a large 14.6-inch touchscreen that can slide up and down to suit the driver and it will feature Ford’s SYNC Move infotainment system. SYNC Move provides wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and there’s a compartment for two large smartphones with wireless charging.
A 17-litre console between the driver and front-seat passenger can hold a 15-inch laptop, and a private locker is hidden behind the touchscreen. There will be combined storage of 450 litres with the rear seats up.
The standard specification will include keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, a massaging driver’s seat, separate climate control for the driver and front passenger, a soundbar, and assisted lane changes.
The new electric Explorer is the company’s first electric vehicle to be built at scale in the new Ford Cologne EV Campus in Germany. Ford in Europe is committed to offering an all-electric portfolio of passenger vehicles by 2030.
