The Mini Cooper Electric is to launch in May 2024 with an extended range
Mini has unveiled a new Mini Cooper Electric with a Sport trim that highlights the brand's racing heritage while maintaining enhanced comfort driving, a longer range, and its iconic design.
The new MINI Cooper Electric is due to be launched in the UK in May 2024. The SE model has a driving range of up to (WLTP) 250 miles from its 54.2 kWh battery, which is a big improvement on the (WLTP) 145-mile range of the previous model. The MINI Cooper E has a range of up to (WLTP) 190 miles.
The new Cooper Electric can also charge more quickly, with a maximum rapid charging rate of up to 95 kW, compared to 50 kW for the previous model. This means that the battery can now be charged from 10% to 80% in just under 30 minutes. It can also be AC charged at up to 11 kW, which can make use of three-phase workplace charging in the UK.
The Cooper Electric SE is also faster to drive, with the new model capable of a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds from its 218 hp electric motor, compared to 7.3 seconds for the previous MINI Electric. Yet efficiency is also impressive, with a figure of 4.2 – 4.5 miles per kWh (WLTP).
The MINI Cooper E is available in trim levels of Classic (£30,000), Exclusive (£32,200) and Sport (£33,500), with the Cooper SE available in the same trims: Classic (£34,500), Exclusive (£36,700) and Sport (£38,000). All models have two doors a hatchback, and four seats.
Sport trim includes 18-inch wheels, red John Cooper Works brake callipers, bonnet stripes, diffusers at the front and rear, and individual JCW MINI LED headlight signatures. Inside, the MINI Experience Modes include GO-KART Mode which delivers increased throttle response and a sporty sound, as well as turning the display and interior lighting red.
The MINI Electric is a city-friendly size anyway, but it still offers technology to help you park; Parking Assistant Plus features 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround cameras and identifies free parking spaces. The advanced EXPLORE Mode even allows parking via smartphone, without the driver having to sit in the car.
