MG owner to unveil new premium EV brand in Geneva

With the 2024 Geneva Motor Show just around the corner, SAIC motors - one of China's largest car manufacturers and owner of MG Motors - has confirmed plans to unveil its premium IM brand to a European audience, with the new IM L6 electric saloon set to take centre stage.

The IM brand has been confirmed to be launching in Europe during 2025 and will offer UK customers the chance to drive premium saloons and large SUVs.

The first model is likely to be the IM L6, which as our image shows, is a modern, sleek saloon - with perhaps the most interesting detail released so far is that the model is expected to be one of the very first EVs to come to market with a solid-state battery.

Should this come to pass - it will represent a significant watershed moment for EVs - as solid-state battery technology promises significant improvements in vehicle range (energy density is far greater than the current generation of EV battery packs) as well as even faster ultra-rapid charge times.

In the case of the IM L6 the expectation is that the solid-state battery version will be capable of travelling around 600 miles on a single charge, with an acceleration time of under 3 seconds (0 to 62 mph).

However, the model will also be available with a Lithium-ion battery pack too with SAIC promising a 400 mile range.
