MG Cyberster completes 8,500 miles across Europe en route to Shanghai
MG's Cyberster EV roadster, driven by British adventurers Hugo and Ross Turner, has completed the first leg of its Charging into the Future journey, covering 8500 miles across Europe all the way to Shanghai.
An electric MG Cyberster roadster has just completed 8,500 miles across Europe on its way to Shanghai as part of the ‘Charging into the Future’ adventure.
The Cyberster is a pre-production version of the two-seater convertible – which is the first MG of modern times to reflect the sports cars of the MG brand from the 1960s and ‘70s.
The Cyberster is being driven by two brothers, Hugo and Ross Turner, with the aim of giving the pre-production car an ‘engineering shakedown’, as well taking the car ‘on tour’, around European audiences to date.
The MG has so far visited the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Spain and Italy. The next destinations include parts of the historic Silk Road route through the Middle East, India and China.
Hugo and Ross say that the prototype MG Cyberster has been responsive, with grippy handling on mountain hairpin bends, but that it also has comfortable ride quality. Despite the roof being down for most of the route so far they claim that there’s been no wind noise or buffeting, and the roadster even has a spacious cabin and a practical-sized boot. From a design perspective, the Cyberster is notable for featuring scissor doors, which open upwards.
There’s due to be rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the Cyberster. The rear-wheel drive model has a 77 kWh battery giving a range of (WLTP) 323 miles, with a 335 bhp electric motor delivering a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 4.6 seconds. In all-wheel drive, dual-motor form, the Cyberster weighs 1,920kg.
The MG Cyberster will soon be in production and it’s expected to arrive in the UK in summer 2024 – when it will be the first, and only, electric roadster on sale. Its price should be in the region of around £50-£60,000.
