LEVC's L380 electric large multi-purpose vehicle is set to make its debut in China in 2024

The LEVC L380 is a new electric large multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) from the company that makes the electric TX taxi. London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) says that it is transforming from a high-end taxi manufacturer to a leading provider of pure electric global mobility solutions.

Since 2014, Geely has invested more than £500m into LEVC. The LEVC L380 is the first of a range of new, fully electric vehicles based on Geely Holding Group’s Space Oriented Architecture (SOA). Geely also owns and manages a number of other automotive brands including Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Lynk & Co and ZEEKR, as well as Geely Auto. Geely also makes the smart #1 and #3, as a joint venture partnership with Mercedes-Benz which started in 2019.

The LEVC L380 – which is named after the Airbus A380, the world's largest airliner – aims to offer a luxurious, flexible interior with multiple seating configurations, and it will be available in a six or eight-seat layout. It’s expected that the L380 will be 5,316mm long, 1,998mm wide and 1,940mm tall, and will weigh 2,805kg.

It’s likely that the L380 will be available with the same 268bhp electric motor as the Volvo EM90 MPV, giving front-wheel drive, and a choice of either a 73kWh or 120kWh battery, which could provide a maximum range of (WLTP) 432 miles. A dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain may also be an option, which should be capable of producing more than 500bhp.

The L380 is due to be launched in China in 2024, with other world markets to follow; it’s assumed that this will include the UK, although this hasn’t yet been confirmed.

LEVC’s history began in 1908 when the first dedicated black cab was specially designed and commissioned for use in London. LEVC introduced the range-extended electric TX taxi in 2018, built at the company’s new eco-friendly manufacturing facility, the first in the UK dedicated to the production of electric vehicles.
