Kia EV9 wins top prize at World Car Awards 2024

Kia's latest electric car - the EV9 - has collected two top awards at this year's World Car Awards

Kia is celebrating a double win at the 2024 World Car Awards, with the Kia EV9 driving away with the World Electric Vehicle award AND World Car of the Year award.

Votes are cast by 100 motoring journalists from 29 countries to decide the winners of the awards - and the jury praised the Kia EV9's spacious interior, design and competitive price point.

Since arriving on the scene last year the Kia EV9 has been steadily picking up awards including ‘Family Car of the Year’ at the 2023 TopGear.com Awards, overall ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Premium Electric Car’ at the 2024 DrivingElectric Awards; and most recently being named ‘UK Car of the Year 2024’ by a panel of 30 of the UK’s top automotive, business, and tech-focussed journalists.

In the UK, the Kia EV9 is available with a choice of six or seven seats, three trim levels and two powertrain options (RWD and AWD). Kia's largest car in the UK, power is provided by a 149.5 kW single motor on the rear axle for the rear wheel drive versions, while the AWD model receives two 141kW motors on the front and rear axles.

Based on Kia's innovative e-GMP platform, it benefits from 800-volt architecture so it is able to handle ultra-rapid DC recharging (up to 210kW) and all versions carry a 99.8 kWh battery unit. Which in the real world should mean any Kia EV9 will be good for over 250 miles on a full charge.
