Exciting Volkswagen ID GTI showcased
The GTI badge will appear on Volkswagen’s electric cars in the future, confirmed by the Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept show car, which has been revealed at the IAA Mobility in Munich, alongside other electric models from the brand.
The production version of the ID. GTI Concept show car, scheduled for deliveries in 2027, will be based on the ID. 2all compact car. The front-wheel drive ID. 2all will be priced at less than 25,000 euros and is due in 2026.
The ID. GTI Concept is compact – just 4,104 mm in length, yet with a relatively long wheelbase of 2,600 mm, short body overhangs, and large 20-inch alloy wheels with 245/35 performance tyres. The front bumper incorporates a black front splitter and the rear of the car features a black roof spoiler.
A front-axle differential lock – electronically controlled by a Vehicle Dynamics Manager – will be used. The Golf GTI and Golf GTI Clubsport were the first Volkswagen models with this traction control system.
Using a newly-developed GTI Experience Control on the centre console, the driver can choose the characteristics the powertrain of the ID. GTI Concept. It will be possible to adjust the drive system, running gear, steering, sound experience and even the simulated shift points.
The golf ball design of the first GTI gear knob has been transferred to the multifunction GTI Experience Control in the centre console – and the steering wheel has an illuminated 12 o’clock marker.
Volkswagen says that there will be sporty GTI versions of selected models from the all-electric ID. family.
The ID.4, ID.5 and new ID.7 are also on show at the IAA Mobility in Munich. Pre-sales started recently of the ID.7, the first all-electric Volkswagen saloon, with a range up to 434 miles.
Volkswagen is due to launch 11 new all-electric models by 2027, which it claims will offer the widest electric vehicle range of all manufacturers. By 2033 at the latest, Volkswagen will produce only electric vehicles in Europe.
