BMW i4 M50 coming to MotoE World Cup
German carmaker BMW has announced that its much-hyped i4 M50 will be the official safety car for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup to be held in Austria in mid-August. In making it’s world debut at the Red Bull Ring, BMW is hoping to underline the new models balance between high performance and environmental credentials.
The production version is due to launch in November 2021, with the BMW i4 M50 the first 100% electric offering from BMW M. The carmaker is promising the usual ‘M’ style thrills and power, this includes specially designed drive sound, 544 hp peak power output and a M-specific chassis.
“With the BMW i4 M50, we are entering a new era and presenting our first M with a fully-electric drive train,” says Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “With the first M BEV, we are setting course for a future, in which the combination of extremely sporty, performance vehicles and electrification is an exciting theme. We are showing that everything people have come to value about M – the typical emotional M driving experience with sportiness, power and dynamics – is also possible in a fully-electric vehicle.
“While the production version of the four-door Gran Coupé will hit the market in the autumn, our fans can enjoy its world premiere at the racetrack this summer. There could not be a more appropriate safety car for MotoE than the BMW i4 M50 – pure performance, fully-electric. We are looking forward to the premiere in Spielberg.”
While we don’t yet know all the details about BMW M’s new electric model, the brand has confirmed that the production version will come with electric motors on both the front and rear axle. More details as and when we find out!
