Retro yet modern, the iconic Renault 5 is coming back as a pure EV!
With first UK deliveries expected in early 2025, the affordable city runaround promises a wealth of options and customisation - as well as choice of battery sizes and power outputs. And then there's the colour palette available - including eye-catching pop yellow and pop green!

It's been a few years since Renault revealed the concept version of the car - and it's pleasing to see that many of the most eye-catching details have found their way onto the production model.
Built on a new and compact chassis the Renault 5 is not only compact (it measures under 4 metres long) but it is also relatively light for an EV too. The weight has been helped by the carmaker not trying to build in a large battery as well as employing several new engineering practices to strip out excess weight.
The original Renault 5 was sold between 1972 to 1985 and racked up over 5.5 million sales during that time, there was even a little-known electric version back in 1974! Fast forward to today and the French carmaker has decided now is the right time to bring back the badge.
Customers will have the option of two power outputs and two battery sizes to choose from - and bucking the trend Renault has gone for relatively small battery sizes, a 52kWh and coming a bit later a smaller 40kWh. This helps to keep the cost of the car down and also the weight. Real world vehicle range comes in at around 220 miles for the larger battery and around 160 miles for the smaller one. Plenty of range for commutes and urban driving.
You'll be able to get a Renault 5 lease from DriveElectric soon, available on both business and personal contract hire.

To kick things off the EV will be available in a choice of five body colours - the eye-catching Pop Yellow and Pop Green seen above, as well as White, Black and a midnight Blue.
There'll be two trim levels at launch, both coming in the 52kWh battery, the Techno and Iconic. There's plenty of kit across the range, so the entry level Techno still comes with 18-inch alloys, reversing camera, wireless smartphone charging and a 10-inch central infotainment screen with Google built-in.
The Iconic adds hands free parking, heated seats and front, rear and side obstacle sensors - as well as some additional design flourishes.
