This model has the potential to be a real game changer - with class leading technology coming to the A-segment, excellent energy efficiency, and the accustomed Hyundai pedigree, the INSTER will arrive on UK roads before the end of 2024.

Unveiled in China at the Busan International Mobility Show June 2024, the Hyundai INSTER builds on the petrol-only Casper model that's been a popular car in native South Korea. Although a compact form, Hyundai has ensured that interior space is sufficient for UK needs and there's still good levels of luggage capacity too.

Customers have the option of two battery sizes - a standard 42 kWh pack or a longer range 49 kWh pack. With it's excellent efficiency score of around 4 miles per kWh as a blended average, we're expecting real world ranges to be around 160 miles and 190 miles.

Regardless of battery size, there's a single electric motor delivering 147 Nm of torque. Power outputs have been configured so that the entry level model can call on 71.1 kW of power, while the 49kWh version receives 84.5 kW.

Also impressive on an EV at this size point is its ability to accept DC power up to 120 kW - all important when on a long trip and needing a quick, burst of extra power - the INSTER can take 120 kW. Which means around 30 minutes to get from 10% capacity to 80%.

The INSTER also comes with V2L functionality, meaning it can power external appliances - such as camping equipment and three-pin plug devices.
