The Ford Capri name is back - and this time it's all electric!

Yes you've heard that right, the iconic model from the 1970s and 1980s that your dad probably loved is set to return towards the end of 2024.

When launched it'll be the third pure electric model from the Blue Oval, joining the Mustang Mach-e and Explorer in the brand's growing ranks of EVs.

As the official shots show that sporty, low slung shape of the old car has been replaced by a more classic SUV shape. Controversial to some but with SUVs being the single most popular bodyshape in the UK, probably a good idea for actual sales.

Ford has decided that an acronym is just what's needed to help promote the model, so here goes:

  • C - cool
  • A - Athletic
  • P - Past meets future
  • R - Rebellious to its core
  • I - Intelligent technologies

We're not sure it's needed but now you know. But what we do know you'd like to know is what we can expect from the new Capri.

Launch models consist of two main specifications - Capri and Capri Premium. The latter comes with a few additional features not found on the base model, however there's still plenty of kit and quality to be found on the base car. Drivers get 19-inch or 20-inch alloys depending on trim, all units come with driver massage seat and a large 14.6-inch touchscreen central screen. Phone connectivity with CarPlay or Android Auto comes as standard. The Premium model benefits from an uprated speaker system and a hands-free boot opening feature.

Customers can also decide between RWD and AWD, with the former providing less power but with a longer vehicle range. The AWD is the sportier version but there's a slight compromise on range.

The RWD model has a WLTP range of 627 km, which translates to 391 miles, when it comes to real world range we're estimating a range of between 310 to 330 miles. For the AWD version, Ford has announced a WLTP range of 592 km, or 370 miles, so we're estimating a real world range of around 300 miles.

Extended Range RWD Capri

  • 77 kwh useable battery size

  • 135 kW DC max charge rate

  • 11 kW AC charge rate

Extended Range AWD Capri

  • 79 kwh useable battery size

  • 185 kW DC max charge rate

  • 11 kW AC charge rate

You'll soon be able to lease the Ford Capri EV from DriveElectric, available on business or personal contract hire.
